Culture of emotional engagement

Most company cultures exist by default. Your company has a culture. Why not make it a culture of choice? Define what culture you wish to have and then go about creating it.

Creating culture

Create a culture in terms of a culture strategy. Consider developing a culture of emotional engagement. First in regard to your employees and then in regard to your customers or clients. Develop this over time. Know that this a long-term project.

Is your company a best place to work in? Do the best candidates knock on your door for employment? Do your customers or clients just swoon about you?

Culture can provide a distinct competitive advantage. See...creating culture

Emotional intelligence

The way which you handle yourself as a business leader, your behaviour, has an impact on various levels within your company. Experts have categorised four sets of competencies that differentiate individuals: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management. They identified six leadership styles: Visionary, Coaching, Affiliative, Democratic, Pacesetting and Commanding. Some produce a positive resonance. Pacesetting and commanding should best be avoided.

A surprising number of managers use pacesetting and commanding.

Emotional intelligence can be improved. While 18 leadership abilities have been identified one only needs six. What a relief. See...emotional intelligence
